Biography

Western Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to include Michael Scott Powell, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Powell has extensive hospital and professional experience with an impressive academic background.

Dr. Powell earned his Bachelor of Science degree in bioengineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

Dr. Powell went on to complete his anatomic and clinical pathology residency, serving as chief resident, at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. Subsequently, he completed fellowships in surgical pathology and in hematopathology also at Stanford University Medical Center.

Over the years, Dr. Powell has developed extensive professional experience. He currently serves on the community faculty at the University of Nevada at Reno. He holds active and current positions as a staff pathologist and the managing and medical director for Western Pathology.

Dr. Powell has authored and coauthored peer reviewed publications in scientific journals and has presented numerous times at scholarly and academic meetings and conferences.

Dr. Powell holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and hematopathology.
