Western Pathology, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice is privileged to include Phillip C. Usera, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Usera has extensive hospital and professional experience with an impressive academic and teaching background.
Dr. Usera graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in health and human science from Oregon State University. He subsequently completed graduate school training in clinical investigations at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, and further training in the department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from The Medical School of International Health at Columbia University in New York City.
Dr. Usera completed his residency in pathology at University of Arizona Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology at the same institution.
Dr. Usera also has extensive volunteer and professional commitments. He has served as Laboratory Medical Director at numerous medical centers and hospitals including Northern Nevada Medical Center and Dini Townsend Hospital in Reno, Nevada.
Over the years, Dr. Usera has developed an array of teaching experiences. He is currently Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine. He has also lectured in Pathology at the University of Arizona.
Dr. Usera holds full medical licensure in the states of Nevada, where he also holds a Laboratory Medical Director’s license, and Arizona. He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Dr. Usera is a member of three medical professional associations, including the College of American Pathologists. He has also received numerous honors and awards throughout his career including the Top Scholar Award while at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
